Girls Making Media centers on the belief that activating and mobilizing independent media from a female perspective can transform women’s lives. “I loved everything about the program.  The subject we chose was very self-exposing, we worked well as a group and I learned new tools I will take with me in the future!”  Desiree   2009 participant

In its pilot season, Girls Making Media was the subject of two newspaper articles.  The Arizona Daily Star did a story on November 23, which brought many inquiries by girls and their parents. http://www.azstarnet.com/metro/268504.php   In May, Stephanie met a young freelance writer for the Tucson Weekly, and he wrote a Q & A article highlighting Girls Making Media.    http://www.tucsonweekly.com/tucson/t-qanda/Content?oid=1188177

On November 23, the same day that the Star article came out, Stephanie, Maggie and Lupita (from Session 1) appeared on “Broad Perspectives Radio” on KXCI 91.3fm, with host Susie B. They were interviewed about Girls Making Media, and the Session 1 audio PSA aired.  This interview aired around the Tucson area, as well as live on the web at
www.kxci.org .

KXCI again aired Girls Making Media audio segments for their International Women’s Day Special Programming on March 8, 2009.  Radio producer Amanda Shauger aired the Session 2 and 3 PSAs on this day during her show “30 Minutes”.  They also aired live on the web at
www.kxci.org.

All five PSAs were submitted to Access Tucson as “fill” videos, to air at random, in between half hour and hour long time slots.  “Fill” videos play one of the TV channels in the Tucson area, and simultaneously at

We look forward to another great year of “Girls Making Media”!
