Girls Making Media
teaches teenage women digital media skills as they produce media segments about issues affecting women and girls in their community. The skills learned are used by program participants to educate, inform and influence public opinion about issues they have identified as affecting women and that call for action for social change.  PSAs in Beginning sessions are the idea and implementation of girls/young women participating.  GMM policy is to not censor girls or get them to do videos about particular subjects.  We inspire them to make content that is meaningful to them, and to present the subject in a way that can speak to as many people as possible.

In April of 2009 “Girls Making Media” and WomanKraft Art Center were awarded a two year grant from the American Association of University Women to assist the continuation of “Girls Making Media” in the Tucson area.  Another series of beginning media sessions of twelve hours each (three four-hour segments) began in October of 2009 (see class schedule).  Graduates of beginning “Girls Making Media” sessions can apply to continue their skills in “studio” sessions.  “Studio” sessions enhance students’ skills as they create audio and video PSAs for community organizations and issues of importance, working individually, or in teams of two. All “Girls Making Media” classes are free.

Participants learn to:
Record and edit audio and video
Record voice-overs
Education in the art of "on-air" speaking and telling a media story
Edit and "render" audio/video into desired format for broadcast and webcast

The grant from the American Association of University Women has paid for a good amount of the total cost of the “Beginning” sessions.   Girls Making Media now seeks community support to help our program build its capacity to instruct girls and young women in Tucson:
We Seek Funding for: 1) “Studio” sessions Digital Instructor, 2) Second Digital Instructor for “Beginning” and “Studio” sessions, 3) Budget for Technical Services (Technology and Time needed to promote and distribute Girls Making Media content).

Another Way to contribute... Do you have a business or organization that would like to have Girls Making Media  create a PSA or promo for you or an event you are planning?
SPONSOR A GIRL! SPONSOR A VIDEO!
As girls advance through the Studio sessions, they have the skills needed to create an affordable PSA for you while you get to support this program offered by a 501(c)3 organization!  For web and traditional advertising.  Call Quynn for more info. 520-954-2004.

Do you want to sponsor a PSA created by Studio participants? You or your business will have the following listing “This PSA was brought to you by…” at the beginning of one (or more) of the seven videos created.  This is a great way to get the name of your business or organization out into the web while sponsoring a video/audio segment about a subject of importance to you, as well as women and/or girls.  Each video is uploaded to WomanKraft’s channel at www.youtube.com , as well as the social networking sites www.facebook.com  and www.myspace.com .   Your business and website will be listed as keywords for the video you sponsor, in the web forever.

These are incredibly affordable ways that you can support a teen or teen young women as they practice video production skills, while getting the affordable promotion or job done that you want . For details about how you can participate, contact Quynn Elizabeth at girlsmakingmedia@gmail.com   or at 520-954-2004
